IT's Not His Truck

The long awaited bathroom in our cave is complete! Inspired by the raw beauty and historical significance of the space, we embarked on a mission to breathe new life into its ancient walls. 

It's been far too long since I have posted. I am completely negligent with my plans of blogging, so hopefully 2024 will be the year where I step it up!

We're thrilled to share the latest updates on the renovation of the hidden gem in our house in Sicily —the cave. Working to transform the old stable into a self-contained efficiency, this cave promises to be a unique addition to our living space. With the dilligent efforts of our local contractor friends, combined with our hard work and finishing touches, we will transform a piece of natural history into a rustic but functional haven. 

After selling my house last year, I've been renting a place in Canada for my home base there and for my daughter to live. When she came to me asking to move to Saint John - I had to ask her about leaving the life she had built there behind to go. Her response - 'The ocean is calling to me'. How could I deny her this when my husband and I bought a place so close to the Gulf Coast for this very reason last year? I could not. We made the move!

As work continues on our Sicily home basement cave, I have to ask myself - how lucky are we to have such a unique opportunity to embrace the natural beauty of a space like this - INSIDE our house? When first viewing the home through videos from the US, we couldn't appreciate how fantastic this space really was. The rooms behind our garage (we've been told by previous owners) were once a place where bread was baked in a large stone oven, and at one time a stable. The distinctive elements that make this cave special - the rock formations, jagged wood & iron door, arched ceilings, & rugged textures - make it a perfectly imperfect place for us.
